9/29 SUNDAY STREETS EXCELSIOR - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
-- 2 Opportunities to help out at Sunday Streets --
email Colleen to participate - email@example.com
Persia Triangle Plaza Demonstration
Sunday 9/29, 8am-10am, meet in Excelsior or make group carpool arrangements
We need 4-6 people to help plant some pots and work with teams from the Planning Dept & EAG to demonstrate changes to sidewalks & curb bulb outs to the neighborhood. AfH is helping plant pots to buffer the zones from the street with lots of beautiful plants from Flora Grubb. We will also be spray chalking hearts on the sidewalk, asking neighbors to write in where is their heart in the Excelsior.

AfH-SF Booth & Disaster Resiliency
Sunday 9/29, 10am-4pm, meet in Excelsior, 2-3 hour shifts
Like last year, we'll be having a booth to show our projects in the Excelsior (Library & Kiosk) and engage with the neighborhood. We'll also be continuing our discussion of neighborhood centric disaster resiliency, asking neighbors to identify resources in their community as well those that need improvement to ensure community strength post disaster. This is a great opportunity to meet a wonderful neighborhood community that most people aren't familiar with, & the festival is loads of fun! ;)
Hope to see you next weekend in the Excelsior! Email Colleen to participate firstname.lastname@example.org

Akilah Institute for Woman - Hospitality Vocational School in Rwanda
Thurs 10/3, 6-8pm
Presentation + Cocktail Hour
Come here two young students speak about their experiences at the school and how it's helped cultivate resiliency post-genocide in Rwanda. The campus opened in 2010, and the inaugural class graduated last year with 100% job placement. AfH-DC provided services for schematic design & feasibility studies, and it's a truly amazing opportunity to be able to hear first hand about the impact our work globally.

Hey All -
Feel free to pick up your favorite 6pack, bottle of wine, or snack to share before we head out this evening. We'll leave HQ at 630pm to wander & mingle around the hood. After, there's a party sponsored by Templeton Rye at Rio Grande from 8-11pm with free drinks & a DJ. If you miss the show n' tell events, you're welcome to come socialize at Rio Grande - I'm sure a few of us will end up there.
Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces & connecting with some new ones! =)
You are exactly right. I look forward to meeting you on Thursday!
Hi Megan, thanks for sending this out! I would be interested in joining the steering committee. Just to confirm -- the meeting will take place Nov 18 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the AFH headquarters?
The second project meeting for the West Oakland Health Council will be held Monday, Oct 25 at 6:30 pm at AFH headquarters on Folsom St. Hope to see you there. Thanks!
This is a great project idea! I look forward to seeing the results.
Yes, we are still looking for additional help. We are just getting started with this project and have not had our first team meeting yet. We'll most likely be meeting next week. An announcement will be posted here and everyone who signed up at the Open House will be notified.
Thank you for volunteering!
I attended the AFH meeting on Sept 16th and signed up for this project. Do u know what the current status of this project is. I see that a firm has volunteered. If so do u need any additional help.
My background is 15 years in social housing and community builings in Ireland. I moved to the States at the begining of this year and joined the SF chapter two months ago.
Thank you for your message. I've forwarded it the chapter members taking on
this project. I believe that they may have already contacted the WOHC but I
also want to make sure that they loop in with you as well.
It'd be fantastic to have your assistance on this. I'll follow up with you
in the coming days (I'm in NYC for meetings all week). Do let me know if
you don't hear from the chapter members.
Many thanks again for reaching out and for your interest in the project.
I'd like to follow up on whether the West Oakland Health Center has found the assistance they're seeking. I've just found this post, though I realize it's dated Aug 23. I can also contact them directly, but thought I would follow up with AFH first.
My firm, The Design Partnership, specializes in healthcare architecture and planning and may be able to provide assistance.
